Our first Party Spotlight comes from Sharon of Los Angeles, CA, who recently celebrated her son’s 5th birthday with a fun Safari and Animal theme!

Table decorations were quick and easy! Glass vases filled with crinkle paper and plastic animal toys paired with animal shapes cut out from construction paper made for an appropriately colorful and child-friendly spread.

Animal Cut-Outs How To: Add some easy color to your table by printing out animal clip art from the internet to use as a guide for cutting out these fun shapes from construction paper purchased at your local dollar store:

What better way to decorate for a Safari theme than with safari animals? Sharon used these cute toys found in her son’s bedroom and paired them with standard crinkle-cut paper for a quick and inexpensive decoration:

No party is complete without party favors these days! To finish her son’s Safari party, Sharon put together fun favors filled with toys that boys love: a Hatch’em Dinosaur (ok so, maybe this wasn’t totally safari, but what five-year-old boy doesn’t love dinosaurs?), bubbles, and a monkey paddle ball, all contained in a cute blue bucket (perfect for taking to the beach).

We just loved Sharon’s Safari theme! If you would like to feature your child’s party on our blog, send us an email complete with pictures at info@lollipop-dream.com.

A Princess Guide

This may come as a total surprise to you, but here at Lollipop Dream we love princesses. And when I say that we love princesses, I mean we really love princesses. Total surprise, right?
It seems today that no parent is immune to the effects of princesses on their daughters. Everywhere you turn, there is a picture, movie, or product bearing those familiar princess faces that your little one can’t help but love and want. After all, princesses are beautiful, royal, and everything lovely — how can anyone resist?
Clearly, none of us here can, and so we have taken it upon ourselves to not only love and admire princesses, but to also take some serious time learning and researching just how to be the perfect princess. When your little ones are looking up to and admiring their favorite characters, we know how vital it is to you that these characters actually behave in a manner that is worth emulating.
So, it is with great pleasure that we share with you our guide for learning how to be a princess. We think you’ll enjoy what you see here, and hope you are able to use our tips for your little one’s next big princess soiree!

1. Understanding the Meaning of Princess
More than simply wearing a costume, being a princess is an all-encompassing experience that dictates everything from the way you move to the topics you discuss. We list this as number one because we believe the most important aspect of ‘princessing’ (as we’ll often call it) is the love and desire to actually be one. A true princess will put her heart into all of her princessing duties.

2. Wardrobe & Accessories
As a princess, you must always wear only the fanciest and loveliest of dresses. Here at Lollipop Dream our princesses all wear true ball gowns or handmade dresses, however for your little ones the options are much more vast and easily accessible. Princess dresses are nearly everywhere these days! Whether it’s at a costume shop, the Disney store, online, a thrift store, or our personal favorite — mom’s closet! — we are sure you can easily find your little princess (or big princess!) the right fit. For a true princess gown (not a costume), try stores that sell Quinceanera or bridesmaid dresses. If you live in a major city like we do, try the fashion district in your downtown area for some great options and deals.
No princess outfit is complete without shoes and accessories. We like to don our princesses in the only the fanciest of necklaces, gloves, boas, and hats, however the possibilities are endless! Clip-on earrings, bracelets, and hair bows or ribbons can help complete any princess look.
3. Movement
You may already have known about how to dress like a princess, so let’s move on to what really makes the magic of a princess come alive: her movement! A princess moves in a very graceful manner. There are no right angles, awkward gestures, or stiff movements in princessing. Rather, think of movement in S curves: everything a princess does, from the way she walks to the way she waves and gestures, will mimic a curved line. Curved movement signifies grace and elegance, which is central to acting like a princess.
4. Posing
Princesses are frequently asked to take pictures! There are a couple of signature princess poses we teach here, including what we’ll call the “Cupped Hands Pose,” and the “S Pose.”
First, the Cupped Hands Pose is perhaps the most recognized pose of a princess, in which you cup your hands together ever so gently and hold them close to your heart. Here are two of our favorite princesses practicing this pose:

Next is the S Pose, which can be done sitting or standing, and requires that you curve your body and arms in the shape of an S (you should recall what we mentioned about movement earlier).

Posing Tip: Make sure to always tilt your head just right to maintain the full princess effect!
5. Facial Expressions
As you may well know, princesses are known for their kindness and warmth, and what better way to show kindness and warmth than with a smile? A princess must always be aware of the expressions she is making as it would be ever so dire if an onlooker caught her looking sour or displeased!
6. How To Speak
Princessing requires the use of specific phrases and words – our favorite is the princess introduction of, “It is enchanting to meet you!” Other princess phrases and words include, “so lovely,” “how delightful,” and “what a dream.” Use of these key phrases is sure to make you sound just like a princess!
7. Manners & Etiquette
A princess must always have impeccable manners and etiquette. Whether she is attending a tea party or frequenting her favorite dress shop, manners are imperative! The use of phrases such as “Please,” and “Thank you,” are the most well known, however there are many more manners one can learn. Sharing, properly introducing oneself to others, not reaching over others to grab something, and eating with a closed mouth are all wonderful manners to learn.
8. Dancing
Last but certainly not least, a princess must know how to dance! We have a few simple dances we love to teach the princesses who come into our store, however it is so easy to make up your own. All you need is a simple princess dancing song (one of our favorites is off a Disney album aptly titled “The Princess Dance“) and a few easy steps. Core moves include the curtsy and twirl.
A curtsy is done by holding one’s dress up, placing the right foot gently behind the left, and bending the knees and bowing the head. A twirl is accomplished by holding one’s dress up and turning in a circle so that the dress spreads out to its fullest extent.

That’s it!
That has been our quick guide for learning how to be a princess! We encourage you to use our guide at your next princess party, share with us any tips you might have for princessing, or tell us which aspects of being a princess you would most like to know more about! We hope you enjoyed our guide and can put it to good use in the near future.
And never forget… the absolute best thing about being a princess is making dreams come true.
